Doggie Foodraiser: How To Get Involved

Let me tell you a story. This Doggie “Foodraiser” is actually a labor of love that began long before Volunteams even had a name. It began with an outpouring of love for a V.I.B. (Very Important Blogger) and the love only a dog can inspire.

Spyder is a friend. She loves dogs and especially Great Danes. About six years ago or so, she and her husband were looking for a Great Dane to call her own. She heard of this Great Dane that was about to be donated to Great Dane Rescue. Her heart went out to it when she saw her face. She was extremely malnourished at 1 year old as she weighed Seventy-Five pounds (by comparison most 1 year olds weigh 125 pounds or so). She was a frightened dog, terrified of the television, cuckoo clocks and loud noises, but not people. Within a year, after feeding her 12 cups of dog food a day, she maintained a normal weight and became an integrated member of her family. When let out from her pen, she would immediately run in and “pounce” on her dog toys, smothering them with licks. She also became a daddy’s girl and greeted her dad every morning by jumping on the bed, pinning him and cuddling into his neck.

Her name was Willow and she passed away earlier this year.

Local bloggers wanted to do something for Spyder and her beloved Willow. @thundabolt began to organize a gathering and craft a plan to do something for charity. That’s when I stepped in.

The patron angel for the Doggie Foodraiser is Willow. On October 10th, come and join Spyder and her new Great Dane, Xander as we celebrate the healing power of owning animals.

This is wonderful. As the ‘Dad’ mentioned in the story above, I cannot tell you how much this means to me and Spyder. Willow was my girl, my friend and buddy, and putting her down was the most wrenching pet decision I have ever had to make. All dogs are–or should be–special to someone. Willow was 110 lbs of love, and we will miss her sweet spirit forever. We were honored to be able to help her live a happy, though sadly shortened, life.

  3. Thank you Niiiiickola. We would like to have a drop off spot there as well.
